In most cases, the most common things that cause stress in our daily lives aren’t physical threats – like meeting up with a bear. (At least, not in the literal sense, after all, I’ve been referred to as a bear before my first cup of coffee in the morning!)
Today’s problems are different – an angry boss (last week’s blog), bills piling up, traffic jams, rude customer service people, work deadlines and family demands to name a few. These events trigger the same fight-or-flight reaction in our bodies that the sight of a bear does – even though there’s no real way to fight them or run away.
When you’re late for work and stuck in traffic, what are you going to do? Just leave your car and walk away? (I’m sure some of you would LOVE to do just that but, unfortunately, it’s not a good long-term solution).
